I purchased the book, "Writing Treatments That Sell". It is piece
of gold!
Brian Jones
I have just finished your book, Writing Treatments that Sell. You
have done a great job. Your book seems to be the only real on topic
discuss of this issue. I am so happy I found this book.
I have found a lot of useful information in the book. I am not a writer,
but have been thrust into that role to help get my television project
off the ground. My question is, What differences do you feel are made
for a treatment for a pilot for a reality television series that is
not a game show? I know that almost all "reality" shows are some sort
of game show these days. Mine is not. Do you have recommendations
for how to write the pilot treatment for something that will not really
have a script? You cannot script reality. I can make assumptions of
what the basic progression will be for the show, but the actual footage
will differ. As with all of these things, once we are in the field,
it really only seems to get better and expands the story.
I am curious to hear what you can recommend that I change from the
format you suggest for a television series and how I handle the inherent
uncertainties of reality programming.
Sincerely,
Grant W. Graves
The first book devoted entirely to the function of treatments
in film and TV, and how to write and present effective ones.
#4 on the Los Angeles Times Book Review's Hollywood Bestseller's
List!
"An insightful, well-researched, and thought-out look at how
movie and TV ideas are sold. Ken Atchity and Chi-Li Wong have accomplished
the near-impossible task of offering a clear road map through Hollywood's
Byzantine structure of buying film and television properties. This
is essential material for the beginning screenwriter, and offers useful
and relevant advice to the more established writer."
Dale Pollack, producer, "Set It Off," "Blade,"
"Saturday Night Fever"
"With WRITING TREATMENTS THAT SELL, Ken Atchity and Chi-Li
Wong have written much more than a book on film treatments. It's an
essential guide for handling structure, characterization, conflict,
and all the other craft concepts that writers have to know, as well
as an incredibly useful outline of what makes this crazy business
tick. To top it all off, their energy and passion for writing and
story-telling is infectious."
Steven Womack, author of CHAIN OF FOOLS.
"At last--someone wrote the book every screenwriter has needed
for years. It can make the difference between success and failure
in the industry."
Linda Seger, author of Making a Good Script Great and From
Script to Screen .
"Atchity and Wong have created a highly accessible and entertaining
step-by-step guide through the creative minefields of motion picture
and television development. Thus, they have delivered an indispensable
handbook for all novice writers and producers who want to make a living
in Hollywood."
Susan Zachary, Exec VP, Rosemont Productions
"...there is no better book specifically on treatments."
