Shepherd To Script Kopelson's NBC Pilot

reprinted from Variety

Scribe John Scott Shepherd is continuing a hot summer run, inking a pilot agreement with NBC to create a drama series with Arnold and Anne Kopelson that's set for a tentative fall 2000 launch. The arrangement brings Shepherd's total writing deals since mid-May to five.

The series will be distribbed by Twentieth TV, with the pilot helmed by Scott Winant and exec produced by the Kopelsons. Shepherd will serve as co-exec producer with Matt Gross and Stephen Brown. Co-producers will be Ken Atchity and Chi Li Wong of Shepherd's management firm, AEI.

Shepherd, who is repped by Paradigm, comes out of the advertising business in Kansas City, MO, and recently sealed four other writing pacts. New Line paid $1.1 million against a $1.5 million sum for screen rights to Henry's List of Wrongs, a first novel for the scribe, in June.

Shepherd hit the spec market two weeks later with the dark comic script "The Kill Martin Club," picked up by Warner Bros. He has also sold spec script "Life or Something Like It" to New Regency as well as Eulogy for Joseph Way, his second novel, to John Wells Prods. and WB.

NBC reps had no official comment on the agreement.
