Chi-Li Wong, President of Atchity Entertainment International, Inc. ("AEI"), announced that the estate of best-selling author William F. Diehl, controlled by his widow Virginia Gunn Diehl, has signed with AEI’s management company for exclusive worldwide representation of his literary properties in both publishing and entertainment.
William Diehl was the author of nine New York Times best-selling novels that were published in 21 countries. The books appealed to a wide audience with story lines of murder, avarice, betrayal and bedlam. Diehl died in November 2006 of aortic aneurysm.
Diehl was known best for "Sharky's Machine" and "Primal Fear" — fast-paced
thrillers that became hit movies. His other novels include Chameleon,
Hooligans, Thai Horse (winner of the American Mystery Award as best
spy thriller), The Hunt, (formerly titled 27), Show Of Evil,
Reign In Hell, and his last novel Eureka, a historical thriller
that was published in 2002. Publishers Weekly called Eureka,
which spanned several decades in the early 1900s, "his best novel ever."
Diehl was working on his 10th novel at the time of his death, the one
he considered his best effort. "The manuscript, 7 Ways to Die,
was substantially finished, with nearly 400 pages written," Wong stated.
Several writers have contacted the estate regarding finishing the novel.
A decision is expected shortly in that regard with plans to have Diehl’s
final novel ready for market.
"Bill Diehl had many fans, including many other writers," Wong stated. "Our intent is to choose the very best person to complete the story that Bill had already created and substantially finished. We believe that’s the best way to please his legion of fans and honor his work."
AEI partner Ken Atchity added "Diehl’s 7 Ways is a riveting tale,
the most unique serial killer story I’ve ever read. I also believe it
to be his most cinematic work."
The Diehl estate was brought to AEI via Diehl’s friend and script collaborator
Michael A. Simpson and his wife producer Judy Cairo. Simpson, who knew
Diehl for 25 years, wrote several television series pilots with the
author, including "Zombie Squad" for USA Network, "Bulletproof" for
ABC, and "Fire Cops" for HBO Independent Productions. AEI will produce
7 Ways To Die with Cairo Simpson Entertainment.
Both AEI and the Diehl estate are represented by Colden, McKuin & Frankel. AEI is handling all inquiries regarding rights held by the estate.
