GOVERNOR JESSE VENTURA SIGNS SECOND BOOK DEAL, WITH POCKET BOOKS AEI Press Release January 13, 2000 NEW YORK, January 12, 2000 - Ken Atchity, President of Atchity Editorial/Entertainment International, Inc. (AEI), and AEI partner Chi-Li Wong announced today that Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura will publish his next book with Pocket Books in September 2000. The book, to be published in hardcover, will also be available from Simon & Schuster Audio. As with I Ain't Got Time to Bleed, the Governor's first book, Writer's Lifeline, Inc.'s Julie Mooney, supervised by Writer's Lifeline VP Vincent Atchity, will assist with the coordination and preparation of the manuscript. Currently titled WHO MAKES UP YOUR MIND? The eagerly-awaited second book written by Ventura promises to galvanize those who have come to appreciate the Governor's candor and opinions. Ventura's first book, I Ain't Got Time To Bleed, which AEI sold to Villard/Random House last year, spent 13 weeks on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction bestseller list and has over 200,000 copies in print. It appears in paperback this summer from NAL/Dutton. AEI made with the deal with Emily Bestler, Vice President and Executive Editorial Director at Pocket, who will edit the book. "Governor Ventura has altered the very culture of politics by speaking his mind freely and taking a firm position on issues. The Governor's new book, which we will publish at the peak of the presidential election season, will advance his no-holds-barred, grass-roots views on politics, the American dream, the media and the state of our nation," noted Ms. Bestler. The deal was brokered by AEI in association with Ventura's long-time managers, Michael Braverman and Barry Bloom of Braverman/Bloom. Jesse Ventura was born George Janos in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent six years as a member of the Navy's elite Underwater Demolition Team (Navy SEALs) and later pursued a successful career as a professional wrestler known as "The Body." Currently the Governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura lives in St. Paul with his wife and two children. Pocket will support WHO MAKES UP YOUR MIND? With major promotional plans for the book including an extensive author tour and national media appearances. All security costs for the Governor associated with the publication of the book will be paid for by proceeds of the publishing deal, and not by the state of Minnesota. The Governor commented: "A philosopher once said, 'If I live, I should speak my mind." I have a lot on my mind." |
